Why Clarissa & Connor Chose a Private Terrace Over a Positano Crowd

Why an Intimate Positano Terrace Elopement Was Always the Plan

Clarissa and Connor met on a dating app in the middle of a Toronto lockdown, and somehow that turned out to be exactly the right start for two people who’d rather skip the crowd entirely. Their Positano sunset elopement started with that same instinct: no guest list, no schedule dictated by anyone else — just the two of them, a terrace, and the coast turning gold behind them.. He plays in a rock band. She can hold her own on a ukulele. Underneath the humor, the two of them run deep — they’d already been through real loss together by the time they got engaged, on a trip to the Azores, in a proposal Connor filmed without her knowing.

So when it came time to plan their wedding, a guest list was never really the plan. “We wanted it to feel authentic and intimate,” they told us — no audience, no performance, just the two of them and whatever came next.

Positano in late September is still busy — narrow stairs, packed terraces, tourists chasing the same three viewpoints. We skipped all of it. Clarissa and Connor got ready and said their vows on the private terrace of Villa Capricorno, a clifftop Airbnb with nothing between them and the sea but a stone railing. Then the terrace doors opened, and it was just the two of them.

Vows on a Terrace Above the Sea: Their Positano Ceremony

Their Symbolic Terrace Ceremony Above the Amalfi Coast

Connor stood at the edge of the terrace with the Amalfi coastline behind him. Clarissa came out in the late-morning light, and for a few seconds neither of them said anything at all.

We knew about the ukulele — Clarissa plays, and their song meant something specific to both of them. So before the ceremony, we picked one up ourselves and set it down beside the terrace chairs. When it came time, she played it for him herself.

A terrace ceremony like this one is symbolic, not legal — which for a lot of couples ends up being the right call in Italy. No paperwork timeline, no waiting on a comune’s office hours, no officiant logistics to build the whole day around. Just vows, a ring exchange, and a first dance, on their own schedule. (If you’re weighing legal versus symbolic for your own day, our full guide walks through exactly how that decision plays out.) Afterward, they poured two glasses of champagne on the terrace before heading down into town.

From Positano’s Streets to a Sunset Boat Ride Toward Furore

A Sunset Boat Ride From Positano to Furore Bay

They walked down through Positano’s stepped streets in their wedding clothes, stopped for gelato, then pizza, and let the town look at them however it wanted to. No posed portraits on a staircase — just two people wandering around after just getting married.

The boat was waiting at the marina by late afternoon. Positano’s coastline photographs differently depending on which direction you’re facing the light — we timed the route so the boat headed toward Furore Bay right as the sun dropped low enough to turn the whole coast gold.

This is the part of the day where the camera mostly disappears. It’s the moment that makes a Positano sunset elopement feel different from a standard ceremony day — no more schedule, just wind, laughing, and off-balance moments no one could plan. It’s why we call this kind of photography recognizable: years from now, they won’t just see how the day looked. They’ll remember how it felt.
