A Positano Elopement Away from the Crowds

Thinking of eloping in Positano? Here’s why a private boat changes everything.

Jackie and Braxton are from the US. They’re the kind of couple who finish each other’s jokes, who would rather spend a Saturday hiking than sitting through a dinner party. When they reached out to us, they had one clear request: a day that felt like them — fun, relaxed, no audience.

Positano is one of the most beautiful places on the Amalfi Coast for an elopement, but in summer it’s also one of the most crowded. The main beach fills up before noon, the stairs become a slow-moving line, and finding a quiet corner to exchange vows isn’t easy. That’s why we proposed a private boat ceremony — out on the water, where the only sound is the engine cutting off and the sea taking over.

We planned the day together from scratch. We connected Jackie and Braxton with a local celebrant, a florist who sources only from Amalfi Coast gardens, and a makeup artist who knows how to work with coastal humidity. If you’re wondering whether you can pull something like this off — you can, and you don’t have to figure it out alone. We handle the full planning so you can focus on being there.

Vows at Sea — A Symbolic Ceremony Off the Coast of Positano

No rules, no timeline. Just them, the boat, and the sunset behind the cliffs.

Jackie and Braxton chose a symbolic ceremony — which means no civil paperwork in Italy. They handled the legal side at home before flying in, and that gave them total freedom to design the ceremony however they wanted. No town hall appointment, no fixed schedule, no witnesses required. If you want the same flexibility, a symbolic ceremony is the easiest path — and the one most of our couples choose.

The boat left from the marina around 6 pm. Positano was behind them, golden in the late light, and the captain cut the engine maybe half a mile off the coast. The celebrant spoke. Jackie read her vows from a folded piece of notebook paper she’d been carrying in her bag all day. Braxton didn’t have notes. He just talked.

And then the sun dropped behind the cliff line and everything turned orange.

When the Lights Came On — Positano After Dark

The best part of a summer elopement on the Amalfi Coast is what happens after sunset.

The boat brought them back to the beach around 8 pm. Positano looked completely different — the pastel buildings had turned into a wall of warm yellow lights stacked up the cliff. They walked barefoot on the sand for a few minutes, just the two of them, before we started shooting again. I didn’t direct anything. I didn’t need to.

If you’re planning a Positano elopement in summer, build your day around the light. The golden hour here is short but intense — the cliffs block the sun early, so you lose direct light faster than you’d expect. That’s why we schedule boat ceremonies for late afternoon and keep the evening free for the blue hour portraits, which on the Amalfi Coast are some of the best in Italy. Our complete guide to eloping in Italy covers timing, permits, and how a day like this actually comes together.

Jackie and Braxton didn’t need a guest list to make the day feel real. They needed the right place, the right light, and the freedom to be exactly who they are. That’s what an elopement gives you — not less of a wedding, but more of what actually matters.
